The 3 Biggest Reasons for a Migration

Of course, there are many reasons why moving to Shopware 6 makes sense. Some were mentioned above. Here’s the summary again:

# 1

Old Shop System

The e-commerce landscape is constantly changing, and solutions from 5–10 years ago are simply no longer up to date!

# 2

Conversion Rate

The most important factor when it comes to the number of orders. If this isn’t right, you should urgently do something about it.

# 3

Missing Support

If your shop system suddenly isn’t supported anymore, you’re on your own—and an easy target for hackers.

We Migrate the Following Shop Systems

Basically, there are no limitations when migrating your old shop to Shopware 6. We can migrate the following shop systems to Shopware 6 without any problems.

The Reasons Why You Should Migrate From Shopware 5

The latest version—Shopware 6—is a huge difference compared to Shopware 5 and not really comparable. The entire technical foundation has been changed and completely modernized. That affects SEO, load times, design, and much more.

Plus, there’s a big problem with Shopware 5. From 2024 on, there will be no more bug fixes or security updates. By then at the latest, Shopware 5 will become a target for hackers. Maintenance costs will also rise, and third-party integrations will gradually stop being supported.

Shopware 5 VS Shopware 6: The Most Important Differences

There are some major differences compared to Shopware 5. First, load times are noticeably better and the technical markup is much more precise and cleaner. In practice, we see that shops rank much better in various search engines after the migration—and generate more revenue long-term.

Thanks to the improved, modern design, users reach their goal faster: buying a product. Plus, there are fewer issues during checkout itself. The result: a better conversion rate and slightly less support effort.

There are also much better options for user tracking—whether it’s Google Analytics, Google Ads, Google Tag Manager, Facebook, Instagram, Hotjar, Microsoft Advertising, and many more. The plugins in the store are far more modern and mature than comparable versions in Shopware 5. This makes ads more profitable, among other things.

The Reasons Why You Should Migrate From WooCommerce

Let’s be honest: how are you supposed to be truly successful with your online shop on WooCommerce? WooCommerce is built on WordPress—a blogging platform from 2004. You can feel that in many places.

Since WooCommerce’s WordPress foundation was never designed for a modern e-commerce platform, in practice the whole store looks like Frankenstein’s monster: kind of cobbled together—and usually not very conversion-focused.

WooCommerce VS Shopware 6: The Most Important Differences

Shopware 6 is simply a clean platform built for one purpose: to push your e-commerce success forward.

For one thing, it starts with SEO optimization: WooCommerce’s rather messy—and especially slow—code tends to be a disadvantage in search engines. Shopware 6, on the other hand, can rightfully present itself as a favorite.

What we notice again and again is that getting started with WooCommerce is pretty easy, but any additional adjustments to checkout, discounts, tracking, vouchers, and many other features are very unstable and time-consuming. For every little thing, you need to install yet another plugin. Shopware 6 already comes with lots of features—and in practice, the extensions are reliable too.

Ads on Google, Microsoft, and Bing also benefit from the much faster performance. That increases conversions and means you have to spend less ad budget. A good deal, right?

The Reasons Why You Should Migrate From Magento

Magento is pretty well-known, but that doesn’t automatically mean it’s the best e-commerce system. Magento has always been complex, which makes it hard to develop further. Those two reasons, plus the very high license costs, mean costs can rise very quickly.

Magento VS Shopware 6: The Most Important Differences

Shopware 6 is much easier to use. As a shop owner, you can quickly find your way around the modern UI and also create multiple sales channels for Google Shopping, Amazon, and more—fast. It just makes sense and is built intuitively.

As already mentioned above, costs for things like licenses are significantly cheaper. According to our research, Magento sometimes charges $22,000–$125,000 per year for certain licenses. Shopware 6 is much cheaper with the Professional and Enterprise versions.

Hosting also isn’t easy with Magento, because Magento is a real performance monster—and you definitely have to pay for an expensive, large server so the shop runs stable and fast enough.

The Reasons Why You Should Migrate From Shopify

As an e-commerce platform, Shopify is clearly better compared to WooCommerce, Magento, and others—but Shopware 6 is still better in some aspects.

Many of these benefits come from the fact that you can choose between the self-hosted and cloud version of Shopware 6. Key terms here are flexibility, extensibility, customization, and data control.

Shopify VS Shopware 6: The Key Differences Explained

The biggest advantage is that with Shopware 6 you can decide for yourself whether your data is fully under your control with the self-hosted option, or whether you use the cloud version like Shopify to take some load off. The biggest advantage of self-hosted: you can customize everything and have anything developed. You’re not tied to the limitations of cloud versions.

Development can also be easier with the self-hosted version, because unlike Shopify, with Shopware 6 you don’t necessarily have to communicate through the limiting cloud APIs. That reduces overall costs a bit in the end.

For large or demanding shops, there’s also the option to use Shopware PWA, which lets you take your shop’s UI and performance to the next level—and perform significantly better in SEO and ads.

We know it all too well: you’ve built your online shop over years with a lot of effort and capital, and of course you don’t want your SEO traffic to disappear after the migration. No problem—we’re prepared!

Here’s How We Do It…

SEO is of course a broad topic with many different aspects in practice: HTML markup, HTTP status codes, microdata, redirects, and much more. The annoying part is that search engines pay attention to certain information that tends to stay hidden in the background for shop owners. That’s why you shouldn’t leave anything to chance during your migration!

To make sure your migration to Shopware succeeds and you can grow your e-commerce success, it’s important that we consider all these aspects before, during, and after the migration. Yes, you read that right: there are 3 important phases that have to work together in the end. But don’t worry—our team is made up of pros!

For the migration, we have a team of developers and testers who know the 3 phases inside out. We also have external SEO agencies as partners that we can bring in for very extensive and complex projects if needed. We deliver the key information exactly the way search engines like Google, Bing, and many others want it. The result is that your SEO ranking is preserved—or even improves with Shopware!

Lots of Expertise in Technical SEO

We’re not beginners—we know technical SEO inside out. Plus, we have external partnerships with SEO agencies that have been doing exactly this in practice for years.

URL Structure and Redirects

What matters is that we keep the URL structure as much as possible so your customers can find your shop again. If that’s not possible, we use targeted redirects.

Continuous Monitoring

After the migration, we use various tools and automated tests to check that pages still don’t throw any errors. That way, we’ll be alerted if something happens and can act quickly.

Frequently Asked Questions

We answer some important questions about migration and shop creation

In practice, modern online shops are extensive and complex web applications that can vary a lot. That’s why prices—especially for large online shops—can differ quite a bit. We also place a lot of value on building complete, scalable shops instead of offering lowball deals with half the performance. When setting things up, our developers do far more than just installing “Shopware and plugins via a 1-click installer”. We put a lot of effort into a clean foundation incl. SEO, tracking, and more—so you can use it long-term to scale to a 5-, 6-, or 7-figure monthly revenue without any problems.

This also varies in practice, since some shops already come with many features that you usually can’t do without after a migration. Typical migration times incl. development and preparation are usually between 3–6 months.

The biggest advantage is that in our day-to-day work we only offer Shopware, so you don’t have to pay us for any learning time. After the migration, we can set up the new site exactly the way you want!

The migration process, including developing your new shop, usually takes weeks or months. During that time, your old shop remains accessible as usual. On migration day, we have two options:
- The shop is unavailable for a few minutes or hours (maintenance mode), which is usually the best and easiest method.
- Alternatively, the shop never goes down and the migration runs in parallel. In practice, that’s much more effort and is rarely worth it.

We offer fixed prices as well as hourly rates. The advantage of fixed prices is that they’re agreed on in advance and are therefore much more transparent than hourly rates. We stick to them. However, in practice online shops can quickly become complex, and not everything can be reliably estimated upfront in a fixed price. That’s why we also use hourly rates when they make more sense or are preferred.

Sure—we also offer monthly maintenance. If you’re happy with the migration and the final result, feel free to contact us about it. Monthly maintenance is also based on a fixed price.
